One of the trickiest things when dealing with fursuits can be finding all of the exotic materials you need. Fake fur, plastics, casting compounds,... There's a long list of ingredients. Here's a list of suppliers that I've found very helpful in my costuming endeavors.
Furs and Fabrics
- Monterey Mills - Manufacturers of some very nice faux fur fabrics. They only sell direct by the roll, however, so purchases must be 15 yards. (800) 255-9665 x2920
- CR's Crafts - Craft supplies by mail order. Geared towards stuffed animals, they also sell most of the Monterey Mills line of furs by the yard. (641) 567-3652
- Mendel's Far Out Fabrics - A shop providing a variety of odds-n-ends fur. If you're near their San Francisco shop, stop in and rummage around; there's no telling what you'll find! (415) 621-1287
- National Fiber Technologies - The source for superior fake fur! They make furs to order as well as provide a limited selection of "stock" furs. The downside is that they are very pricey... (800) 842-2751
Other Materials
- Bob's Foam Factory - A source for different types of foam rubber. If you're in the San Francisco bay area, this is a great source. If not, it is possible to have foam shipped but it's probably better to look for local resellers. (510) 657-2420

- Douglas & Sturgess - An excellent source for exotic effects and makeup materials. They supply a variety of plastic and rubber compounds useful for casting and coating. (888) ART-STUF
